What clients typically ask a tax advisor in Latvia
Most companies don't need a tax consultant every week — they need one at the right moment, when a single decision carries real money. These are the situations where our advisory work delivers the most value:
Choosing a tax regime. SIA, micro-enterprise (MUN at 25% of turnover, capped at EUR 40,000 per year) or self-employed status with 31.07% VSAOI — the wrong choice easily costs a founder EUR 1,000–3,000 a year. Start with our comparison of Latvian tax regimes, and if you already operate under one regime, see how and when to switch.
Dividend strategy. From 2026 companies choose annually between the classic 20/80 CIT model on distributed profit and the new alternative regime of 15% CIT on annual profit plus 6% PIT on dividends. Which wins depends on how much profit you retain — we run both scenarios, explained in detail in our alternative CIT regime guide.
VAT registration decisions. Registration is mandatory above EUR 50,000 domestic turnover, but voluntary registration sometimes pays off earlier — especially with EU clients or large input VAT. Details in our VAT registration guide.
International structuring. Holding companies, withholding tax, tax residency and the use of Latvia's double tax treaties — as a Russell Bedford International member firm, we coordinate cross-border questions with partner offices in 100+ countries.
VID audits and disputes. We prepare documentation before an audit, represent you during it and draft appeals against VID decisions. See how to prepare for a tax audit.
How we work
Step 1: Free initial consultation. A 30-minute call or meeting at our Riga office. We clarify your question and tell you honestly whether it needs paid analysis or has a quick answer.
Step 2: Written scope and quote. You receive a short description of what we will analyse and a fixed fee — or an hourly rate of EUR 100/hour for open-ended questions. No surprises later.
Step 3: Analysis with your real numbers. We work with your actual P&L, payroll and planned distributions, not textbook examples. You can pre-check rough figures yourself with our tax calculators.
Step 4: Written opinion and action plan. You get a document with concrete steps, deadlines and the expected tax effect in EUR — something you can act on or show your board.
Step 5: Implementation support (optional). We file the elections and applications with VID, adjust your accounting setup and stay available as your ongoing advisor.
What a tax consultation costs
The first consultation is free. One-off advisory is billed at EUR 100/hour; larger projects (restructuring, regime change, audit defence) get a fixed quote upfront. If we also handle your accounting, routine tax advice is included in the monthly fee: from EUR 150/month for a new company, EUR 200–600 for small businesses, EUR 700–900 for medium-sized firms and from EUR 1,000 for large ones — see pricing.
FAQ
How much does a tax consultation in Latvia cost?
The initial consultation with a CORVUS tax advisor is free — we use it to understand your situation and scope the work. After that you pay EUR 100/hour for ad-hoc questions, or a fixed project fee agreed in writing before we start. For accounting clients, everyday tax questions are covered by the monthly fee, so most of them never pay separately for advice.
Can you represent our company before VID?
Yes. We represent clients in VID thematic checks and full tax audits: we prepare and submit documents, attend meetings, answer auditor queries and draft written explanations. If VID issues an unfavourable decision, we prepare the appeal and, together with partner attorneys, support you through the dispute. Early involvement matters — clients who contact us before responding to VID's first request consistently achieve better outcomes.
Do we need one-off advice or ongoing advisory?
Both models work. A one-off consultation suits a single decision — choosing a regime, planning a dividend, structuring a deal. Ongoing advisory suits companies with regular cross-border activity or growth plans. You can also use us alongside your existing accountant, including mid-year: many clients start with a second opinion on one question and later move their bookkeeping to us — the transition is possible in any month.
Do consultations cover the owner's personal taxes too?
Yes, and they usually should. For an owner-manager, the company's taxes and personal taxes are one system: salary vs dividends, the 25.5% IIN rate (33% above EUR 105,300 per year), capital gains on selling shares, tax residency when moving abroad. We model the total tax burden at the household level, not just the SIA's — that is where the real savings usually appear.
In which languages do you provide consultations?
We advise in Latvian, Russian and English — in meetings, by email and in the written opinions themselves. All VID correspondence is handled in Latvian by us, so you can work entirely in the language you prefer. This matters especially for foreign owners dealing with VID audits or residency questions.
